Best Answer: That is not a HIN number. It is the wrong number - I bet you got that off the plate near the front of the boat. Your 'HIN' number is the one that tells the date of manufacture. This number will be at the rear or stern of your boat (and may be hard to see) - but it's there, It. 1960 13' Old Town 50 Pounder, serial #170573-13. It weighs 65#. Canoe was completely restored in 2013 and has seen light use since then. Has been stored outside under a deck, under another canoe, as well as under a tarp and so was always well protected from the elements.

Has a mast step which I don't think is original. Copper stem band pushed in a little on one end, hardly noticeable and will not affect performance or appearance, just want to disclose. Thanks for looking. This auction is for one pair of vintage Old Town Canoe oar locks for their“CS” grade canoes and boats. Old Town Canoe made their canoes and boats in two grades- the AA and the CS(Common Sense) The AA was trimmed in Mahogany and had brass fittings. The CS grade used Spruce for trim and steel for fittings. This set is in nice condition but has one flaw- somewhere along the line one of the bases was replaced with a painted brass one- I have had them sitting on a shelf for more years than I care to count and I never knew until I started to list them.
Over the years I have had many sets of brass Old Town oar locks but this is the only set of steel ones I have ever come across. Please look at the pictures and email me with any questions and I will try to answer them. Shipping costs are rising and I will do what I can to minimize the cost as much.

Slats, seats and canvas but needs to be resealed and painted. The canvas is good and does not need to be replaced.
Good strong and solid canoe with no rot. The spotting you see in the pictures was due to a short rain shower while taking the photos. Again, she has been dry stored for years and continues to be.
Nice antique canoe. I have this listed as a local pick up but can. Ship if need be. Winning bidder would have to coordinate this with me.

I purchased this canoe inWisconsin from a gentleman who said it had belonged to his uncle and familysince new. It was my intention torestore the canoe to its original condition. But too many projects, not enoughtime, and you get the picture. I am nowrelocating and do not have the ability to take it with.
This canoe needs a lot of work and is not functional. As far as I can tell it has at least sevenbroken ribs and four holes in the planking. The port side gunwale needs to be replaced. The stems need work, someplanking needs to be replaced(obvious holes) The original cane seats were modified with rope and will need to be restored.I stripped most off the varnish. Which was quite a job with all the layers thathad been slathered on over the years.
Ifyou want a good winter project then this is a good one. It would make a good family canoe as theYankee was a livery-type and the flat bottom lends itself to goodstability.
Sorry for the picture quality as they were taken in thegarage with not the best light and with a cell phone camera. Send me a message if you have any furtherquestions. Local pickup only and thiscanoe is sold“as is” do to the nature of its condition. I am located about anhour North of Chicago. I have no way totransport the canoe at this time. Vintage 1928 Old Town Canoe Wood and Canvas 17 Foot Lake Model Restored Excellent Condition- I had it restored by Schuyler Thomson 10 years ago and it was never put in the water afterwards- it hung in one of my stores- then stored in my attic- Schuyler is famous for his restorations- and he restored my canoe to original condition and color- Notice the rare blue color- this was supplied by Old Town- it is a beauty with original wooden bumpers on the side- another rarity.
He replaced 10 ribs and used all the original hardware- it is a real beauty- needs a cleaning- you can see the dust. If you like Old Town Canoes this is one for you. You will never see another like it. We do not deliver or ship- it is up to the purchaser to either pick up or have shipped.
As you can see from the pictures- it shows the original workmanship and wear on the ribs. The seats are in superb condition. Happy Bidding. Information on Schuyler Thomson- go ahead and google him. Schuyler Thomson loves wooden canoes. He has built.
Paddled and poled them, guided wilderness trips in them, won a national downriver championship in one and, since 1979, has made a full-time profession of repairing and restoring them. His shop, a red post-and-beam bungalow, sits under some ancient maples in the yard of his boyhood home on Weekeepeemee Road in. Thomson, 38, works six to seven days a week restoring life to moribund canoes.
He works quickly, deftly, although that was not always the case. In his green days, jobs that now take him minutes, such as steaming and fitting a new cedar rib, took him hours. Hurled tools were an embarrassing feature of that period.
So were hurled oaths, smashed fingers, broken windows. Thomson persevered.
He did not do so for the money—there is very little money in canoe restoration—but in homage to his two major maxims: 1) If you own something worth having. It's worth taking care of and 2) If you're going to do something, do it all the way. Thomson's commitment to full-time excellence in. Up for auction is a rare canoe! NO RESERVE The following information is to the best of my ability and no guarantees: 16' CAR LETON– Serial number 49482? Wood/Canvas Length: 16' Width: 34' Depth: 12' Carleton Canoe Company. End, and the gunwale is cracked by one thwart. The boat has been in storage for the last 40 years.
This is a great collectors item, perfect as a full size display canoe. The canoe is in good condition, but will need restoration for in-water use. pick up only and cash payment only money is to be paid when you pick it up. Thank You and Happy Bidding!
This is a very solid original Old Town Canoe back rest. The back rest has been carefully restored to exact specifications.
I have been restoring Old Town Canoes and accessories for over 45 years. When received this one. From a scout camp out East, it had cheap screws which left rust stains in the wood.
Brass screws should have been placed in this from the start. Although brass screws are very costly, there should be no other choice. It took great pains to do since the old rusty screws were broken or rusted into place. You can begin using this back rest right away. The restoration was a labor of love. The aged patina and even the stains are pleasing to the eye. Please enjoy this incredible classic Old Town Canoe back rest.
She is heavy and well made to last. I had to re-list this item because of a listing error which I have now corrected. Please pardon the interruption. OTHER ITEMS: I have a Green 16 footer which I completed up for sale on Ebay now.

Thank You: Powered by The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items. I am selling a 1923 Charles River Canoe. Made by Old Town Canoe Company.
This canoe is beautifully hand crafted from wood and canvas. It is painted a dark green with white outwales and keel. There are decals on both the bow and stern, one depicts an Indian paddling a canoe and the other an Indian girl standing. The Canoe measures 15 feet 4 inches long from stem tip to stem tip.
With an actual over all length of 17 feat. The width from inwale to inwale is 30 3/4 inches across the center, with an overall width of 35 inches. It is 11 3/4 inches deep in the center, with an overall depth, from top of the stem to bottom of the keel, of 24 1/2 inches. The canoe weighs just under 80 pounds when dry. I am told this canoe was recanvased in the early 70s and used regularly until the early 80s when it was left hanging in a garage until just a few months. The serial number is very faint but I was able to make it out.
82158-17, and request information card on record at Old town. They emailed me a digital copy of the manufacturers card, that is pictured above.
I will print out a hard copy of it to go along with the boat. This was a well loved and well used canoe and will need some repairs if it is to be put back in the water. It took it out in the water once and found that it has one leak in the stern that takes on around 2 gallons an hour.
All the bad stuff. There are three ribs with cracks and one severely smashed. Several broken planks but it is impossible to tell their real condition without taking off the canvas. The ends of the gunwales and the tips of the deck on both bow and stern have some significant damage. This is common with wooden canoes that are left outside upsidedown.
The canvas is not in the best condition and has separated from the gunwales. The keel is damaged and has many chips and patches in it. The paint has held up well. But is cracked all along the keel.
There is a leak in the stern. Both keel and bow bras stem bands are missing. The center thwart is broken and was reinforced with a thin strip o.
Up for auction is a pair of canoe shelves made from a 1927 Old Town Wood and Canvas Canoe. The shelves are made from 100 year old reclaimed wormy chestnut lumber from a barn in South Eastern Pennsylvania. Book shelves are 94' high by 36 1/2' wide and 16' deep.
The pair are for sale for $2200 or would consider selling separately for $1200 each(firm) Bookshelves can be picked up in Port Deposit. MD or I can help with delivery with in reason for fuel cost. There will be no shipping for this item. Good luck bidding. This is an original 1913 made Old Town Canoe in nice condition bearing the serial number 27719. The canoe measures 17' in length. Width at center thwart: outside gunwhales 33 7/8' Height at center thwart.
Planking to top of the thwart approx 12 1/4' I believe there are 3 patches: one at stern'wrap around' strip patch approx 2 1/2' wide- situated just below gunwhales. Approx 7-8' in length each side. Number two a rectangular patch approx 2' x 3' approx 8' below gunwhales on starboard side midway between forward and middle thwarts. And the third patch a rectangular approx 1 1/2' 2' port side 6' below gunwhale between stern seat and structure of stern. It has red western cedar planking, spruce gunwhales and birch seats, decks and thwarts. The original exterior color was a dark green.
Information obtained from the WCHA indicates that this canoe was built in July of 1913 and delivered to Madison Wisconsin in March. The first owner was Professor Lyon of the University.
The canoe was kept in a boat house and used on Lake Mendota until the late 1940s when it was gifted to the Holland family who have owned it ever since. Most of the time it has been used in Ontario Canada. The paint is a traditional forest green. Paint surface somewhat uneven and has become slightly scuffed. Gunwhales are also somewhat scuffed from movement on sawhorses- a single coat of marine varnish will resolve that! Thwarts and canoe interior and floor are in very fine condition! Currently the canoe resides in the New Glarus Wisconsin area.

Early 1960's Vintage/Antique Old Town Canoe(Think it was made by Old Town and owned by a family member since 1964) Serial Number L71921 16. The interior of this canoe is in great shape as the photos show.
It does need recovering as the original canvas and subsequent painting is cracked and loose. I have researched this canoe as much as I can on the internet and it appears that when restored and recovered the value is in the $2400 to $3000 range. The interior needs little work short of sanding and re-varnish. There are excellent how-to's on You Tube as to recovering these and looks as if it would be a fun project for the handy man or woman. Materials to recover seem to be available online for about $400. This canoe was given to my deceased brother as a wedding gift in 1965 and was brand new at that point.
It has been stored indoors. For most of it's life other than when in the wilderness in northern Minnesota. I am moving to a town home and no longer have a place to store it and am not able to recover it myself. It is located in northern Minnesota at Brainerd. And is offered as local pick up only at this point.
